Exam day is where months of preparation either show up cleanly or get lost to avoidable slips — reaching late, forgetting the hall ticket, or panicking over the question paper. The good news is that the things that go wrong on exam day are almost all preventable with a simple checklist and a calm routine.

This guide walks through what to do before you leave home, what to carry into the Karnataka Board exam hall, the rules to respect, and how to manage your time once the paper is in front of you.

Before you leave home

1. Carry your hall ticket and photo ID — Your KSEAB hall ticket (provisional admit card) is mandatory — you will not be allowed to sit without it. Carry an original photo ID too, and double-check your name, registration number, subject, centre, and exam time on the hall ticket.
2. Pack only permitted stationery — Take your own transparent pouch with blue/black pens, pencils, eraser, sharpener, scale, and any instruments your subject allows (for example geometry tools). Carry spares of pens — do not borrow during the exam.
3. Confirm your centre and reporting time — Know the exact exam centre address and reach well before the reporting time printed on your hall ticket. Plan for traffic. Reaching early gives you quiet minutes to settle instead of arriving rushed and anxious.
4. Leave banned items at home — Mobile phones, smartwatches, programmable calculators, and study material are not allowed inside the hall. Do not even carry them into the centre if you can avoid it — being caught with a banned device can have serious consequences.

Inside the exam hall

1. Fill the answer-booklet details carefully — Write your registration number and all required details exactly as instructed. A mistake here can delay or affect your result. Do this calmly before the paper begins.
2. Use the reading time to plan — When the question paper is handed out, read the whole paper first. Note which questions you know best and decide your order of attempt. Watch for any internal choice or optional questions the paper allows.
3. Answer to the marks and show your work — Match answer length to the marks, show every step in numericals with units, and draw neat labelled diagrams where expected — these carry dedicated marks. Number your answers correctly to match the question.
4. Manage time and keep a buffer — Allocate minutes in proportion to marks. If a question stalls you, leave space, move on, and return later. Keep a few minutes at the end to check units, labels, and that you have not skipped any sub-question.
